1793 – Tennis is 1st mentioned in an English sporting magazine. (Most historian
s believe 
that tennis originated in the monastic cloisters in northern France in the 12th century, but the ball was then struck with the palm of the hand hence the name jeu de paume (“game of the palm”). It was not until the 16th century that rackets came into use, and the game began to be called “tennis.” It was popular in England and France and Henry VIII of England was a big fan of the game, now referred to as real or Royal Tennis).
1836 – Madras Chamber of Coimmerce was established by 8 businessmen under chairmanship of J. A. Arbuthnot a

1959 – Aarti Saha (Gupta) swam across the English Channel.
1977 – India and Bangladesh signed settlement for distributing Ganga river water.
1981 – Delhi-Srinagar Indian Airlines Boeing 737 flight was diverted to Lahore, Pakistan by
five Khalistan activists of the Dal Khalsa International. On board there were 117 passengers out of which 66 were freed on arrival in Lahore.
1993 – National Human Rights Commission set up.

2009 – In the latest ranking of the International Boxing Federation, Vijender Singh was ranked first in 
75 kg with 2700 points. As an amateur, he won a Bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, becoming the first wrestler to win a medal in this sport. He joined Congress Party in 2019 but lost South Delhi seat. Later he joined Bhartiya Janta Party in 2024.
2016 – The Indian Army carried out its first surgical strikes on terrorist launch pads across the Line of Control in Pakistan, a major geopolitical event. It was in retaliation for the Pakistani terrorists strike in Uri on Sept.16, killing our 19 soldiers. Our Army killed 35-40 Pakistani soldiers.
Born…. 1906 – Chaudhary Chhajju Ram (Lamba), social worker, philanthropist and teacher from Bhawani distt. in old Punjab (now Haryana). He shifted to Calcutta for 
business and made big fortune, used it for noble causes. he was an Arya Samaji and financed studies of students like Sir Chhotu Ram. Called Danveer Bhamashah by his followers and was also honoured with Sir decoration by the British (pic credit-www.reditt.com).
1913 – Rudolf Christian Karl Diesel, a German engineer who invented the internal-
combustion engine that bears his name.
1928 – Brajesh Mishra. former diplomat, politician and NSA during PM Atal Behari Vajpayee govt. 1998- 2004. He dealt amicably with after-effects of Pokhran Nuclear Tests and US policy drift against India (pic credit- livemint.in).
1932 – Mehmood. Highly talented Bollywood comedian, singer, producer and director. He debuted in film Kismat, Andaaz Apna Apna and is known for roles in Padosan, Brahamchari, Aarjoo, Do Phool, Do Bigha Zamin, Pyaasa, CID, Nadaan, Sanyasi, Funtoosh, Chhote Nawan, 
Shriman Shrimati, Hamjoli, Kunwara Baap, and Mein Sunder Hoon etc. He won to 8 Filmfare awards and several nominations to other industry awards.

1970- Khu
shbu Sunder. popular fim, TV serial avtor, producer who has worked in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam films. Won a National Films and several state film awards.
Rip….. 2017 – Tom Alter, Mussourie born Bollywood actor, with American, German and Swiss missionary ancestory. Some of his family members retained Pakistani citizenship but his parents shifted to India after Partition of 1947. His roles in films Mrig Trishna, Charas, Laila Majnu, Shatranj Ke Khiladi, Ham Kisi Se Kam Nahin, Saheb Bahadur, Ram Bharose, Channi, Atyachar, Naukri, Des Pardes, Kranti
