1854 – The first great disaster involving an Atlantic Ocean liner occurred when the steamship S.S. Arctic sank with over 300 lives lost.
1905 – Albert Einstein’s equation E=mc² is first published.
1908 – The first production Ford Model T car left the factory. It was assembled at the Piquette Avenue Plant in Detroit, Michigan, which had built various earlier models (Models B, D, F, K, N, R, S) in prior four years. The Model T was introduced on 1 Oct 1908. It had a 20-hp 4-cylinder engine, with versions starting at $850.
1922 – Scientists at the Naval Aircraft Radio Laboratory near Washington, D.C., demonstrated that if a ship passed through a radio wave being broadcast between two stations, that ship could be detected, the essentials of
radar. 1925 – Rashtriya Swayansewak Sangh was established under Dr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar on Dussehra (Vijyadashmi Day) in Nagour to fight the British ruler and re-establish a Hindu-Sanatan Bharat.
1950 – Mihir Sen became the first Indian to swim across the British Channel.
1950 – The phone answering machine was invented.
1960 – Europe’s first “moving pavement”, the travelator, opened at Bank Underground station.

Born…. 1873 – Vithalbhai Patel, great freedom fighter, social worker, nationalist leader, politician and President of the Central Assembly.
1907 – Bhagat Singh, Indian freedom fighter. Reverred as Shaheed-e-Azam, Bhagat Sing
h and his team of freedom fighters under Hindustan Sociailst Republic Association, killed a British soldier John Sanders who Lathi Charged veteran freedom leader Lala Lajpat Rai who was fatally injured and died later. Bhagat Singh also threw a crude bomb and anti-British posters in the Assembly. Bhagat Singh Rajguru and Sukhdev Thapar 
were hanged and cremated by the British on March 23, 1931 in Lahore Jail clandestinely.
1927 – Ashok Singhal, an Indian Hindu activist and the International working president of the Hindu organisation Vishva Hindu Parishad for over 20 years and in charge of the Ayodhya Ram Janmabhoomi movement He bolonged to a highly educated, ICS, IPS family of Agra and joined Freedom Movement leaving comfortable life, joined Satyagraha and later VHP for establishing Ram Lalla Mandir in Ayodhya, which could come up in 2024, but he died in Nov. 2015.
1932 – Yash Chopra, legendary film director, producer who is known for very popular films like Dhool Ka Phool, Dharamputra, Waqt, Daag, Deevar, Kabhie Kabhie, Chandni, Lamhe, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, Dil To Pagal Hai, Veer Zara etc. His brother BR Chpra was also a famous fim director/producer and maker of Mahabharat TV serial. Yash Raj Chopra was awarded 6 National and 8 Fiomfare awards and Dadfasaheb Phalke award in 2001.
1953 – Mata Amritanandamayi. Prominent Kerala and South Indian Spiritual Guru, philanthropist, educationist and world travelled speaker on Hindu-Sanatan culture. Reverred by devotees aas Amma, she has addressed Parliament of World Religions, United Nations and other global forums.
RIP…. 1833 – Raja Ram Mohan Roy, great social reformer, lawyer and politician passed a
way at Stapleton Grove in England. He founded Brahmo Samaj in 1828 alongwith Debendranath Tagore, visited England, America and Europe to spread the message of humanity, peace and love. He went to England to represent Moughal king Akbar Shah -II, who anointed him as Raja Ram Mohan Roy (pic credit-hindu-blog.com).
1995 – 73 people died in a coal mine accident in Gaslitand in Dhanbad district, Bihar, when flood water leaked into the mine.
2008 – Mahendra Kapoor, a famous playback singer of Hindi films. He sang particularly memorable songs in BR Chopra’s films Humraaz, Gumrah, Dhool Ka Phool, Waqt, Dhoond and Mahabharat epic.
You may have known…. In 2011, 68 million India’s population, or over 8% of those aged 15 and older, were graduates or more qualified, an increase from the approximately 7% seen a decade earlier. This rise in graduate education level, which saw women’s progress outpaced men’s, was a key finding of the Census 2011 data.
