Union Budget 2021-22 ignored middle class: Tharoor

BJP Member Meenakshi Lekhi, hailed the Budget for setting path to coming years.

New Delhi, Feb 10 (UNI) Congress Member Shashi Tharoor on Wednesday said in the Lok Sabha that the Union Budget 2021-22 has ignored the middle class. ‘This Budget has ignored middle class, while Excise Duty on petrol has gone up,’ the Congress Member said while initiating the discussion on the Union Budget for 2021-2022.
He further said that there was no relief in tax rates for the middle class. The Congress Member claimed that the budget has little for farmers in terms of MSP.  A quarter of the budget for MSP has been slashed. The Union Government has ignored thousands of tea workers in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, he noted.
According to Mr Tharoor, ‘The MGNREGA allocation has been cut by 35 per cent and there has been reduction of six per cent in the Education budget’.
Participating in the debate, BJP Member Meenakshi Lekhi, while hailing the Union Budget, said this is the first budget of this decade and it is different because of the Corona era. ‘This budget will determine the path the country will travel during the next few years,’ she said.
The BJP Member further said that there has been a massive allocation in sanitation and drinking water.
