New Delhi:  By calling  an impromptu  Cabinet Meeting of  his team  within a few hours of his  return from a hectic and high blitz  5-Nation foreign tour,  Prime Minister Modi has provided  sufficient  reason  to initiate a  debate in  the media and political circles: whether  this is  an effort to conduct  a mid-term  Performance Appraisal of  his Cabinet Members before going into  the 3rd year of his  3rd term  as Prime Minister of India or it’s an Emergency Huddle to devise a strategy and face  the  impending  economic crises  wrought in by the 3-month long West Asia  War!

PM Modi’s 5-Nation Tour:  Before proceeding on his five nation  (UAE, Netherlands, Sweden, Norway and Italy)  foreign tour on May 15,  soon after  BJP having won 3 of the five states  (West Bengal, Assam,  Tamil Nadu, Keralam and Puducherry),  that went for Assembly elections last month  and  having installed  his Party govts in West Bengal,  Assam  and Puducherry,  PM Modi  embarked on  the  5 day  tour beginning with  UAE  where he signed  important  agreements with  UAE govt. for  uninturrupted supply of Crude enabling  Indian consumers  meet their  vital Energy  needs  apart from  moving forward the much awaited  strategic crude oil  reserve/storage  creation  in India  thru’  a  pipeline from  new UAE  gas wells  (Dalma  Offshore Gas projectr and Bu Hasa Field etc.) on Southern Coast  to Gujarat coast  in the near future. An immidiate  investment to the tune of $ 5 Billion is reportedly   expected to flow-in  from UAE deals.

Apart from  the uninterrrupted crode oil and PNG Gas  supplies, the Prime Minister is believed to have used the  just concluded European-Nordic  nations  tour and  have signed several  agreements with  50 Global  companies  engaged in sectors such as semiconductors, logistics, infrastructure, defence, energy and technology, committing over  $ 40 billion worth of investment in the near future, through fresh investments or  their expansion plans  in key tech sectors. as most of these firms already have a major presence in India, with  their cumulative investments and business exposure in the country  worth over $ 180 billion in the pipeline.

Resolving  Burning Issues at Home:  Though the  Narendra  Modi-led NDA Government has just completed  12 years of  interrupted rule, the  term Modi 2.0   (after winning  2019  Lok Sabha elections)  has been  quite turbulent  with Covid-19,  Pulwama Terrorist attack,   and many more  domestic  and international  flashpoints like Russia-Ukraine War  that impacted European economy and  forced India to look inwards for  keeping  domestic  markets  senitized  from  global constraints, production-consumption  balance  and  bringing in  consumer friendly policies to  keep buyers  visiting  markets  and sellers  making their  deals  at reasonable  ROI.

The first 2 years of  Modi 3.0  have also seen  rising discontent.  Though the thin majority in the Lok Sabha 2024 elections has  forced  BJP to  depend more on  its Allies in  decesion making,  PM Modi’s  and BJP’s inner team has been able to  make it up  through State Assmbly  election victories (and  manoeuvring  with  weaker Allies) to steer the ship afloat through storms, the non-resolution  of  West Asia War crises  for any longer period would be a  bigger Test of its  politicalm acuemen and statesmanship.

MEETing, the latest Flashpoint  on NEET  Fiasco:  The higher education  Entry Examination systems like NEET for admissioin to Medical Colleges, IIT-JEE  for Engineering Colleges involves  lakhs of  youth  and  crores of the affected family members. Corruption in admissions, Paper leakages and  failure of  Govt. agencies to  plug the loop-holes, is a  regular and annual  crises recurring each year. Ministry of Education  has not been find any  foolproof  solution. It is a big systematic failure of  Examination security,  leading to  discontent among youth,  suicides at coaching centres,  and  providing disgruntled  elements  rerason  to  ignite  agitations and  god-sent opportunities to the Political  Opponents  to creat discent and embarrass the govt.

Union  Cabinet Rejigg Imminent:  The timing  and urgency of the Cabinet meeting called by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi,  within a few hours after arriving from Italy,  has started churning out  rumors and  speculations  in the political circles,  on  dropping some incompetent  ministers (and bringing in new faces, aspiring young  MPs from BJP and Allies).

Yes, the  Periodic Appraisal of Performance  of the Cabinet  members is  a Must for the Head of the  Govt. and in  any  democratic government to remain  in Good Books of  its Voters, the  Constituents and  equally  ready to  answer the  Uneasy Questions of the Opponents !                                                                                          —-Editor
