WR hurdler Tobi Amusan accused with anti-doping

Tobi Amusan, a hurdler who holds the record for the world, claims that she has been charged with a violation of the anti-doping laws because she failed three drug tests within the course of a year.

On Tuesday, the Nigerian woman announced the news on her Instagram account and stated that she will defend herself against the charges.

“I am a CLEAN athlete, and I am regularly (maybe more than usual) tested by the AIU,” she wrote, referring to the Athletics Integrity Unit, which handles doping issues in international track and is the agency that charged her with the violation. “I am a clean athlete,” she continued, referring to the fact that she was tested by the AIU often (maybe more than usual).

In the year prior, during the world championships that were held in Oregon, Amusan startled the crowd that was still arriving by setting the world record with a timing of 12.12 seconds in the semifinals of the 100-meter hurdles event. She ran the race again about 90 minutes later and won the gold medal with a time of 12.06, but that time was not included in the record books because the wind was blowing too strongly in the opposite direction.

“When I watched the record, I was like, ‘Whoa, who did that?'” “Whoa, who did that?” Amusan described her response when she saw her time appear on the scoreboard.

Amusan attended college at Texas El-Paso and had been training partners with Blessing Okagbare, a Nigerian who had graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso. As a result of a federal investigation into an El Paso physician who pled guilty to supplying human-growth hormone and other prohibited medicines, Okagbare is currently serving an 11-year suspension for various doping offences. These violations arise from the investigation.

If you fail three drug tests, you could face a suspension of up to two years, however there are some exceptions that could be made depending on the circumstances.

Amusan stated that she was tested “within days” of her third missed violation, and she had hope that the issue would be rectified in time for her to compete in the world championships that will take place the following month.
