1998 – AB Vajpayee  Government decides to grant full statehood for Delhi and create three new States namely Uttaranchal, Vananchal and Chattisgarh. Delhi was later made Delhi NCR by adding some areas of adjoinung states for easing  residential and other congestions.

1999 – An Indian High Commissioner member N. R. Doraiswamy is beaten up by Pakistani intelligence operatives. India lodges a prptest and expels a Pak staffer from their Delhi High Commission.

2005 – A comprehensive 10-year agreement between India and the US on commerce, technology etc..

2007 – Apple released the first iPhone by  CEO Tim Cook

2011 – According to a survey of Indian women conducted about the stress caused by today’s hustle and bustle in the world’s leading developed and developing countries, most women in India live under stress. Women around the world feel under immense stress and pressure. This problem is more visible in economically emerging countries. In a survey, Indian women reported themselves to be under the most stress.

2014 – Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi announces establishment of worldwide “caliphate” at the Great Mosque of al-Nuri in Mosul, Iraq.

2014 – Saina Nehwal won the Australian Super Series in Badminton.

2015 – Beijing Times reports 30% of the Great Wall of China has disappeared due to natural forces and steali9ng     of bricks.

Born…. 1861 – Devaki Nandan Khatri, the first Tilismi writer of Hindi. He wrote historic fiction works like ‘Chandrakanta’,‘ Chandrakanta Santati’, ‘Kajar Ki Kothi’, ‘Narendra-Mohini’, ‘Kusum Kumari’, ‘Virendra Veer’, ‘Gupta Gonda’, ‘Katora Bhar’ and ‘Bhootnath’. ‘Bhootnath’ was completed by his son ‘Durga Prasad Khatri’. His novel ‘Chandrakanta’ has contributed a lot in the promotion of Hindi language. This novel had fascinated everyone. Many non-Hindi speakers learned Hindi language to enjoy this book. Babu Devaki Nandan Khatri made words like ‘Talism’, ‘Aiyar’ and ‘Aiyaari’ popular among Hindi speakers.

1975 – Upasna Singh, the Hoshiarpur (Punjab)  born actress is  known for her works in television and films. With her versatile acting skills, she has made a mark in the entertainment industry and continues to entertain audiences with her comedy and satirical performances (pic credit-tasveermahal.com).

RIP…. 1961 – Sardar Baldev Singh, famous freedom fighter,politician and first Defense Minister of India  from August 15, 1947 to June 29, 1961  (pic credit-firstpost.com).

1973 – Michael Madhusudan Dutt, a prominent figure in Indian literature, renowned for his work as a poet and playwright. He was a pioneer of the Bengali sonnet and is often considered one of the greatest poets in Bengali literature. His notable works include ‘Meghnad Badh Kavya’ which is acclaimed for its epic style and tragic narrative.
