he Great founded Saint Petersburg, which would become a vibrant cultural center and symbol of Russian power. He faught many battles against Ottoman and Swedish empires and became the first Emperor of Russia from 1721 until his death in 1725. Earlier he reigned jointly with his half-brother Ivan V until 1696. Peter, as an autocrat, organized a well-ordered police state.

Born….1907 – Hariharananda Giri, an Indian yogi and guru who taught in India as well as in western countries. He was the head of the Kriya Yoga Institute, United States, and fo

1957 – Nitin Gadkari, popular BJP politician and businessman of Nagpur (Maharashtra), who is the current Minister for Road Transport & Highways. Gadkari was the President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from 2009 to 2013. He aspires to be the next PM of India.
1962 –Ravishankar Jayadritha Shastri, a dashing Indian batsman and left arm spinner. He was an all-rpounder member of Indian team during 1981-1992, became a chief coach of Indian team and the sports broadcaster. He was the first Indian batsman to score 6 sixes in a Ranji Trophy match for Bombay against Baroda, and scored 200 in 123 balls, a record then (13 sixes and 13 fours). He was hounoured with CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement award in 2024.
RIP…. 1964 – Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India and the main focal point of Indian politics before and after independence. He was one of the main leaders of the Indian independence movement as an assistant to Mahatma
Gandhi , fought to make India independent till the end and served the country till his death in 1964. Because of his attachment to children, children knew him by the name of “Chacha Nehru”. He preached non-alignment and Panchsheel in world forum but was cheated by the Chinese leaders by attacking India in 1962, and snatching awaynb large parts of Kashmir and some North East India.
1998 – Minoo Masani, co-founder of the Swatantra party. He was one of the prominent
leaders of Indian liberal and Socialist group, post Independence. He was member of Constitiuent Assembly from INC and three time MP. He propsed UCC to be included in the Constitution of India, which Gandhi and Nehru opposed, he had to resign the party.
