1739 – German immigrant Caspar Wistar begins Glass manufacturing in New Jersey, US.

1898 – ‘Scientific American’ carried the first magazine automobile advertisement bringing Alexander Winton returns for his $1000 car

1898 – Corn Flakes were invented by William Kellogg. At Battle Creek Sanitarium, the superintendent, Dr. John Harvey Kellogg and Will Keith Kellogg, his younger brother and business manager, invented many grain-based foods to provide patients a strict nutritious diet. In 1894 they unintentionally invented a flaked cereal process based on wheat. By 1898, W.K. Kellogg had developed the first flaked corn cereal. Patients enjoyed the cereals and wanted more to take home. In 1906, the Battle Creek Toasted Corn Flake Company was founded by W.K. Kellogg.

1909 – Wright Brothers deliver 1st military plane to the  US  army.

1935 – 1st Penguin book is published, starting the paperback revolution.( Penguin Books is a British publishing house, mainly for kids and young students making learning a Fun. Penguin revolutionised publishing through its inexpensive paperbacks, sold through Woolworths and other high street stores for sixpence).

1947 – The part of Kashmir, North West Frontier Provience (NWFP), was swallowed up by Pakistan. The formality of raising the flag being done in November.  Almost two-thirds area of J&K State was annexed  by Pakistan calendestine  forces attcking  immidiately  after  India’s  Independence  in  1947.

2003 – The last “old style” Volkswagen Beetle rolls off the assembly line in Mexico.

2012 – 300 million people were left without electricity due to a major power grid failure in India.

Born…. 1863 – Henry Ford, American inventor and automobile manufacturer who first experimented with internal combustion engines while he was an engineer with the Edison Illuminating Company. He completed his first useful gas motor on 24 Dec 1893. The Quadricycle, he designed made its first road test on 4 Jun 1896. On 16 Jun 1903, he and eleven investors signed paperwork to incorporate the Ford Motor Company.

1928 – Sulochana Latkar, better known by her  cinema  screen name Sulochana, was an Indian actress of Marathi and Hindi cinema, who acted in 50 films in Marathi and around 250 films in Hindi. She received many accolades and honor throughout her career, most of her roles were of  middle class mother. She was honoured with Padma Shri, Maharashtra Bhushan, Filmfare Lifetime Achievement award and others.

1969 – Mandakini,  (Yasmin Joseph Thakur), famous  film actor debuted with Raj Kapoor  directed  film Ram Teri Ganga Maili alongwith his  son Rajiv Kapoor and won Filmfare award. She also acted in Dance Dance, Kahan Hai Kanoon,  Pyaar Karke Dekho, Zoredaar etc.

1973 – Sonu Nigam, singer, music director, and actor. He sings predominantly in Hindi and Kannada language films but has also sung in Bengali, Gujarati, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Nepali, Malayalam, Tulu, and other Indian languages. Nigam has launched his own music label on 30 July 2020 named ‘I Believe Music’ and “Rudhrashtakam” is the first track to release under the label. Nigam was the host of the Sa Re Ga Ma music show from 1995 until 1999 and became a household name. Nigam was a celebrity judge on the Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Mega Challenge grand finale on 12 December 2009.

1973 – Sonu Sood. Indian model, actor, producer and philanthropist. He mostly does villain roles in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil films like Arundhati, Dabangg etc. (pic credit-www.mensxp.com) 

1990 – Akanksha Singh,  is an Indian actress who primarily works in Hindi and Telugu language films and TV shows. Started as a theatre artiste, she made her screen debut with the Colors TV’s television series Na Bole Tum Na Maine Kuch Kaha etc.

RIP…. 1622 – Tulsidas, devotee of God Rama, Saint, great poet and writer of Ramayana and Ramcharit Manas in Dohas/prose.  ( his death is believed to be  on July 30  or Oct. 23).
