United Nations, April 28: Russia will hold an informal UN Security Council meeting on May 6 to present first-hand information about the situation on the ground in Ukraine, senior legal adviser of the Russian Mission to the United Nations Sergey Leonidchenko said. “If you want to learn the truth about real situation with the ground, come to our aria-formula meeting on May 6, we plan to give the floor to some independent voices working on the front line to demonstrate your facts, not fakes,” Leonidchenko said during a United Nations meeting addressing war crimes in Ukraine on Wednesday. Leonidchenko criticized Western media for its biased reporting on Ukraine that ignores atrocities committed by the Ukrainian armed forces. Moreover, Leonidchenko emphasized that the flow of fake news will not shield Ukrainian neo-Nazis, foreign mercenaries and their sponsors from being held accountable for participating or committing in heinous crimes. He added that multiple witness statements and evidence to this effect is being collected right now across Ukraine, including in the city of Mariupol. On February 24, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine after the Donetsk and Luhansk people’s republics requested help to defend them from intensifying attacks by Ukrainian troops. The Russian Defense Ministry said the special operation is solely targeting Ukrainian military infrastructure and the civilian population is not in danger. Moscow has repeatedly said that Ukrainian nationalists torture and maim captured Russian soldiers and intelligence officers. In March, a footage of Russian soldiers being shot in the legs appeared on the Internet. The head of the Russian Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin ordered investigations into all the circumstances of brutal treatment of Russian soldiers in Ukraine. (UNI/SPUTNIK)
