Muslims help perform last rites of Kashmiri Pandit in Pulwama
Srinagar, May 9 (UNI) In yet another heartwarming example of Kashmiriyat, Muslims in a village in the south Kashmir district of Pulwama helped perform the last rites of a Kashmiri Pandit amid an unabated rise in the number of fresh COVID-19 cases and deaths.
According to details, as soon as the news of the death of 70-year-old Chaman Lal spread in village Tahab in Pulwama, members of the Muslim community on Saturday came in large numbers to his house to condole the death.
As only a few of his family members and relatives were around, the Muslim neighbors of the deceased took it upon themselves to help perform the last rites of Lal, a former BSNL employee.
The locals made all arrangements for the funeral of the deceased in accordance with Hindu customs. Lal’s family is one of the many Kashmiri pandit families that did not migrate in the 1990s but opted to stay on in their native village in the valley. “
This is not the first time that Muslims in the valley have helped perform the last rites of Kashmiri Pandits, who stayed in Kashmir.
