Chandigarh Police Officers Protest Salary Deduction Policy…

Demand Equal Rules for All; Question Department’s Decision…

Chandigarh : Police personnel in Chandigarh have expressed strong dissatisfaction over recent salary deductions, claiming that the policy should be applied equally to all. The issue surfaced after several officers found significant reductions in their monthly salaries, leading to widespread unrest within the force. Many officers argue that while the department is providing financial assistance to the families of personnel who lost their lives in accidents, it should not come at the cost of deductions from active officers’ paychecks. The protesting policemen insist that the rules must be uniform for everyone in the force and that such decisions should be made with proper consultation. Reports indicate that discussions are ongoing within police associations to formally present their grievances to higher authorities. Some officers have also questioned whether similar deductions apply to senior officials or if they are selectively imposed on lower-ranking personnel. The salary cuts have added to the frustration of many officers already dealing with stressful job conditions, including long hours and high-risk duties. The department, on the other hand, has defended its decision, stating that funds collected through these deductions are used for welfare purposes, particularly to support the families of officers who have died in the line of duty. However, this justification has not eased tensions, as many personnel believe alternative financial solutions should be explored instead of impacting their regular earnings. Discussions between police representatives and senior officials are expected to take place soon to address the matter and find a possible resolution. Until then, the discontent among Chandigarh’s police force continues to grow, raising concerns about morale and job satisfaction among law enforcement officers.
