BJP extends support to agitating Amaravati farmers on capital city

Vijayawada, Nov 21 (UNI) In a significant political development, the BJP Andhra Pradesh Unit on Saturday extended support to the agitating farmers of Amaravati region in protest against the shifting of executive capital city from Amaravati to Visakhapatnam.
BJP state leaders including MPs Y Sujana Chowdary, CM Ramesh, State President Somu Veerraju, party National committee member Kanna Lakshmiarayana, CM Ramesh, D Purendeswari and other leaders took part in the maha padayatra being taken out by the farmers, farm labourers, and villagers of Amaravti region in Nellore district on Sunday.
The farmers launched their maha padayatra, christened as ‘Nyayastanam to Devastanam’ on November 1 and has been on padayatra since then. The maha padayatra ends in Tirupati on December 17.
Addressing the agitating farmers in Nellore, MP Sujana Chowdary said that the BJP is extending support to one capital concept. The BJP wants Amaravati should be only capital city to the state.
Mr Somu Veerraju said that Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy assured people of the state that Amaravati would remain capital city of AP and he abide to his assurance.
Though the Amaravati farmers launched their marathon walkthon on November 1 and going ahead to Tirupati after overcoming various hurdlers created by the government, the BJP so far has not extended their support and maintained distance from taking part in the Maha padayatra.
When Union Home Minister Amit Shah went to Tirupati to attend the South Zonal Council (SZC) meeting, some BJP leaders convinced him that the party should extend support to the agitating Amaravati region farmers.
Mr Shah asked the AP BJP leaders to extend solidarity with the agitating Amaravati farmers.
Leaders of all political parties including the TDP, Left parties,Congress and Janasena took part in the maha padayatra and extended their solidarity to the agitating Amaravati region farmers.
It may be mentioned here that the farmers in the Amaravati region had parted with over 33,000 acres of land for the construction of capital city Amaravati but Mr Reddy headed YSRCP government had decided to shift the executive capital to Visakhapatnam.
