New Delhi, Oct 19 (UNI) Singer turned politician Babul Supriyo on Tuesday formally tendered his resignation as Lok Sabha MP. Shortly after, he shared a picture painting contrast between the time when he became an MP in 2014, and after his resignation today.
Supriyo, who had quit the BJP and switched over to the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress party last month, on Tuesday met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla here and resigned as MP from Asansol parliamentary constituency.
The singer-turned politician said his heart was “heavy” after resigning.
“My heart is heavy because I started my political career with BJP. I thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Party President Jagat Prakash Nadda and Home Minister Amit Shah for showing confidence in me,” he said.
Hours later he shared a ‘meme’ which contained a photo clicked after he took oath as an MP, and another one clicked on Tuesday after his resignation. He can be seen spreading on bench on the road-side in Delhi, with a paper cup full of tea in his hands.
“One of my favourite roadside bench in Delhi on Rafi Marg, where I always went and sat alone when I wanted some time for myself,” he said.
In his resignation letter to the Speaker, the former BJP leader urged to accept his resignation and bless him for his ‘new journey.”
He also expressed his gratitude to the BJP, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and party’s national president Jagat Prakash Nadda for giving him the opportunity to serve the country under various capacities.
“It has been a very fulfilling seven years that I have spent in the Parliament and I shall always remain indebted to my now ex-party BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji, Amit Shah ji and JP Naddaji for giving me the opportunity to serve my country,” Supriyo wrote.
He also said that he had entered politics with the blessings of yoga guru Baba Ramdev, and he will go to Haridwar to seek his blessings.
