BathindaIn : a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Bathinda Police arrested three drug peddlers who were on their way to deliver a narcotics consignment. The arrest was made during a routine patrol when the police noticed suspicious activity near a checkpoint. Acting swiftly, the police intercepted the suspects and recovered a substantial quantity of heroin along with drug money amounting to ₹1.27 lakh. The arrested individuals were identified as residents of nearby areas who had been under surveillance following intelligence inputs regarding their involvement in the drug trade.
The police officials revealed that the trio was using a private vehicle to transport the heroin, aiming to distribute it within various localities in and around Bathinda. Upon searching the vehicle, officers discovered packets of heroin hidden in secret compartments. The cash recovered is suspected to be proceeds from previous drug deals. According to the preliminary investigation, the accused were part of a larger network involved in supplying drugs across Punjab. Their modus operandi involved targeting young individuals and college students, exploiting addiction as a means of steady income.
Senior police officers commended the vigilance and prompt action of the patrolling team, emphasizing that such operations are crucial in the ongoing fight against drug abuse in Punjab. The arrested individuals have been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigations are underway to trace the origins of the drugs and identify other members of the drug syndicate. Police sources indicate that more arrests may follow as the interrogation progresses.
The incident has once again highlighted the growing concern over drug abuse in Punjab, particularly in districts like Bathinda which are often used as transit routes by traffickers. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to uprooting the drug menace through strict law enforcement, public awareness campaigns, and rehabilitation programs for addicts. Residents have been urged to cooperate with law enforcement by reporting any suspicious activity that may be linked to drug trafficking.
This arrest marks a small but significant victory in the broader war against drugs in Punjab. With consistent efforts and community support, the police hope to deter such illegal activities and make the region safer for its youth and future generations.
