Jalandhar : A honeytrap gang operating in Jalandhar has been busted by the local police, exposing a disturbing case of extortion and blackmail. Four individuals, including two women, have been arrested for allegedly luring a bank employee to a private residence, holding him hostage, and recording an obscene video to use as leverage for money.
According to police officials, the incident came to light when the bank employee mustered the courage to file a complaint, narrating how he was trapped. He had been contacted by a woman who gradually built trust and invited him to meet her at a residence in the city. When he arrived, he was ambushed by three accomplices who were already present at the location. They held him hostage, threatened him, and recorded objectionable content under pressure.
The victim was told that if he didn’t pay a large sum of money, the video would be made viral or shared with his employer and family. Feeling trapped and fearing for his reputation, the bank employee initially stayed silent. However, the gang kept pushing for more money and repeated threats, forcing him to approach the police.
Following the complaint, a police team quickly acted and tracked down the accused. In a swift operation, they arrested all four individuals involved. Two women played key roles in trapping the victim and creating the fake relationship setup, while the two men assisted in the execution of the blackmail plan.
The police have recovered the electronic devices used to record and store the videos, as well as mobile phones that contain evidence of the extortion attempts. Officials are now investigating whether the gang was involved in other similar cases and are also appealing to other possible victims to come forward.
Senior police officers stated that this case is a serious reminder of rising cyber-related and trust-based crimes in urban areas. The arrested suspects are currently being interrogated for more leads and will be presented before the court for further legal proceedings. Authorities have emphasized the need for vigilance, especially among professionals, to avoid falling into such traps.
The police have assured that strict legal action will be taken and that victim protection will remain a top priority.
