Brij Bhushan to hold July 30 meeting to pick his panel before WFI elections.

In preparation for the next WFI elections, Brij Bhushan will hold a meeting on July 30 to nominate members for his panel. Vishal Singh, Bhushan’s son-in-law and a representative from Bihar in the elections, has a good chance of running for one of the top posts, despite the fact that Bhushan and his son are not members of the electoral college for the elections.

NEW DELHI: Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the outgoing president of the Wrestling Federation of India, called a meeting on Sunday to nominate his panel, which would compete in the upcoming WFI elections to choose the new office-bearers.

Even though Brij Bhushan and his son Karan aren’t on the electoral college, Vishal Singh, the BJP leader’s son-in-law, is a representative for Bihar in the elections and is probably going to run for a prominent post.

Although he did not name the location, departing WFI assistant secretary Vinod Tomar stated that Brij Bhushan had organised a meeting for July 30.

Yes, the departing president called a meeting for this Sunday. Where the meeting will be held is still up in the air. All of the (state body officials) who support him (Brij Bhushan) would probably attend the meeting, according to Tomar.

“The presidents and secretary of the several state associations will probably attend the conference to talk about the election candidates. The location of the conference has not yet been chosen, Tomar continued.

The deadline for submitting nominations for the elections on August 12 is July 31.

Brij Bhushan is ineligible to run since the National Sports Code only permits officeholders to serve for a maximum of 12 years at a time.

Currently, an ad hoc committee chaired by Bhupender Singh Bajwa and established by the Indian Olympic Association is in charge of running the day-to-day operations of the WFI.

Ranbir Kundu, the secretary of the Punjab Wrestling Association, stated on Friday that his state association has not yet received an invitation from any candidate or group to attend their conference.

We have not yet received any invitations. In the forthcoming elections for the top positions, we will not be fielding any candidates. But we’ll vote for the truth and for the development of wrestling in the nation,” declared Kundu.

Kartar Singh, a well-known former grappler and current president of the Punjab Wrestling Association, served as the WFI’s secretary-general until his removal in 2013.
