Undertrial Prisoner Escapes from Jind Jail, Minister Orders Probe into Lapse
Strict action expected as authorities are asked to submit a detailed report on the incident…
Chandigarh : A major security breach occurred at Jind Jail in Haryana when an undertrial prisoner managed to escape from custody. The incident has raised serious questions about the internal security and vigilance within the prison premises. In response to the incident, the state government has taken a strict stance, and a high-level inquiry has been ordered by the concerned minister.
According to preliminary reports, the prisoner, who was facing trial in a criminal case, was being held at the Jind district jail when he made his escape. The circumstances surrounding the escape remain unclear, but early suspicions point towards possible negligence on the part of the jail staff. The incident came to light during a routine check, after which senior jail officials sounded the alarm.
Taking immediate cognizance of the matter, the minister in charge of prisons has directed for a detailed investigation and demanded a full report from jail authorities. The minister emphasized that any form of carelessness or dereliction of duty will not be tolerated and assured that those found guilty of negligence will face disciplinary action.
The administration is now under pressure to not only recapture the escaped prisoner but also restore public confidence in the state’s correctional system. Local police teams have been deployed to track down the absconding undertrial, and surveillance operations have been intensified across the region.
This is not the first time that Haryana’s prison security has come under scrutiny. In the past too, incidents of jailbreaks or inmate violence have raised alarms, urging the government to reconsider its prison management policies. Experts believe that overcrowding, understaffing, and outdated security infrastructure could be contributing factors to such incidents.
As the probe continues, political opposition parties have begun to question the effectiveness of the current administration’s oversight of law and order. They have demanded transparency in the investigation and accountability at all levels of the jail administration.
The incident has once again highlighted the urgent need for prison reforms and technological upgrades within the jail system to prevent such breaches in the future. Meanwhile, the public and media remain keenly watchful of the government’s next steps in dealing with the situation and ensuring justice.
