A decision to boycott British goods was taken at Bagarhat. It was led by legendary freedom fighters trio – Lal-Bal-Pal (Lala Lajpat Rai-Bal Gangadhar Tilak-Bipin Chandra Pal).
1926 – National Geographic takes 1st natural-colour undersea photos.
1929 – Indian Council of Agricultural Research was established. It plans, conducts and promotes research, education, training and transfer of technology for advancement of Agriculture and Soil Sciences. (It was earlier named as Imperial Council of……..). Now its coverage includes Agriculture-for crops, vegetables, fruits, herbs- dairy and animal husbandry- fishing, sea-foods etc.

1954 – French rule ends in Mahe, the largest island of Seychelles in the Indian Ocean.. De facto power was transferred to the people and the Indian flag hoisted.

1996 – The four basin states of Narmada valley – Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra – reach agreement to raise the height of Sardar Sarovar dam in Gujarat to 436′ after which hydrological studies will be done fo

2013 – 27 children are killed and 25 are hospitalised after eating lunch contaminated with insecticide in a school in Bihar. The school provided free meals under the Mid-Day Meal Scheme, the world’s largest school feeding programme involving 120 million children.

Born…. 1909 – Aruna Asaf Ali, social worker and freedom fighter during Quit India Mo
vement in 1942 and Goa Liberation Movement. She was against the Emergency but stayed loyal to Indira Gandhi family. She became first Mayor of Delhi. Later she started journals Link and Patriot, espousing mainly communist and progressive ideologies. She was awarded Bharat Ratna inn 1997.
1930 – Sachin Bhowmick, screenwriter, director known for film Raja Rani,
a romantic comedy in 1973. He wrote scripts for films Aayee Milan Ki Bela, Anuradha, Love In Tokyo, Aaye Din, Bahar Ke, Brahamcvhari, Aaraadhana, An Evening in Paris, Pehchan, Aan Milo Sajna, Caravan, Gol Maal. Karz etc. He won a National Film award and 3 Filmfare awards.
1968 – Dhanraj Pillay, one of the legendary Indian Hockey players, who plays Center Forward in hockey, has great speed and striking skills in the game. He represented India in 4 Olympic Games (1992 onwards), 4 World Hockey World Cups (1990 onwards) and Champions Trophys, having scored over 170 goals in 339 International appearances.
