1789 – Office of Indian Postmaster General is created under the Treasury Department.

1903 – Italo Marchiony granted patent for ice cream cone.

1910 – England’s 1st aircraft flight.

1913 – The first batch of Indian passive resisters, consisting of 12 men and 4 women (including  Mrs. Kasturba Gandhi) are arrested at Volksrust and imprisoned in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa (pic credit-pinterest.com).

1955 – The first commercial television broadcasting began in Britain by  ITV (Independent Television).  Rediffusion, serving the London area was the first on the air. The first advertisement was shown at 9:12 pm showing Gibbs SR toothpaste in a block of “ice”.  (though the world’s  first commercial TV station was WNBT, New York, which had begun commerical broadcasting on 1st  of  July 1941.)

1965 – India and Pakistan cease-fire goes into effect, ending Indo-Pak War started by the  latter on  August 5, 1965 called Operatipon Gibralter. Though both the countries had signed at the Interational Court of Justoce  on June 30, to settle  the border disputes, if any.

1988 – PM  Rajiv Gandhi  announces Government’s decision to drop Defamation Bill after continued protests by the newspapers and public, all  across  India.

1988 – National Geographic Magazine’s first issue published.

1999 – India asks Pakistan to prevent the reported attempt by the JKLF to cross the Line of Control (LOC) on October 4, as announced by them .

2019 – “Howdy, Modi!” US President Donald Trump holds a mass rally for Indian PM Narendra Modi  at the NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.  The event was   for promoting Donald Trump’s re-election as US  President,  but he lost the  election to  Democrat  Joe Biden. (pic credit-therepublicworld.com).

2024 – China sets a new world record for the most resistive magnet at 42.02 tesla at Hefei Institutes of Physical Science, creating a magnetic field more than 800,000 times stronger than Earth’s.

Born….  1956 – Ranjeeta Kaur (Mirza), popular Bollywood actress known for roles in Akhiyon Ke Jharokhe Se, Pati Patni Aur Voh, Laila Majnu, Sheela, Superman, Teri Kasam, Anjanee, Meri Biwi Ki Shadi   etc. She  worked in 47 films and was nominated thrice for Filmfare award.

1987 – Unni Mukundan, is a Malayalam actor who played PM Narendra Modi in Ma a Vande. Acted in Tamil films like Seedan,  Mallu Singh, Style etc. Has won several awards. He has recently joined with Kumar Mangat Pathak (left) of Panorama Studios for his 50 film production (pic credit-the Hindu.com).

1988 – Sana Saeed, Bollywood  actor, done some filma nd TV shows. She acted in  Student of the Year, Kuchh Kuchh Hota Hai, Lo Ho Gayi Pooja… and TV shows Jhalak Dikhla Ja, Nach Baliye, Fear Factor etc.

RIP….  1891 – Gangopadhyay Taraknath, revolutionary  novelist of  Bengal. Wrote stories  Bichitra, Golposongroho, Sreshto Golpo and novels Uponibesh-1, 2, 3 and Trophy, Shillipi, Alokporbna etc. He taught in Calcutta University colleges.

1977 – Maulana Abdul Ali Maududi, founder of Jamat-E-Islami. Born in Aurangabad and migrated to Pakistan after Partition in 1947,  was an  auther, journalist, religious teacher.

You may have known…. World Bank data from 2011 indicates that India achieved gender parity in primary and secondary education, with a Gender Parity Index (GPI) of 1.0 for primary and 0.98 for secondary education in that year, meaning there was either a nearly equal or slightly lower ratio of girls to boys in secondary education.                                                                                                                                                                              {Compiled by Lt.
