Mucormycosis infection treatment to be available in Thane hospital soon

Thane, May 14 (UNI) With the number of corona patients suffering from fungal diseases like Mucormycosis infection is rising. it was decided to start an updated operation theatre at the civic-run Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital, Kalwa.
District Guardian Minister Eknath Shinde gave a direction to this effect on Thursday in an emergency meeting called to review the measures to be taken to curb the disease, stated an official release from his office here.
Since corona patients with low immunity or patients with diabetes are likely to develop mucormycosis and if they do not get treatment on time, the chances of them dying due to spread of infection from the eye to the brain are greater
And, as the number of patients with the disease has been increasing in Mumbai Metroplitan Region, the Minister has instructed to start an up-to-date operation theatre at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital at Kalwa to perform surgery on such patients.
Since the injections required for treating mucormycosis are expensive and are likely to be black marketed, Mr Shinde instructed Thane Municipal commissioner Dr Vipin Sharma to keep adequate stocks ready on time.
“If the patients are treated on time, the patient with mucormycosis can completely get well, hence the treatment should reach the maximum number of patients on time,” he added.
Mr Shinde also reviewed the work of the special ward for children at the Global Hospital in Thane.
