Mohali: A major twist has emerged in the Mohali suicide case of a travel agent. A day after the incident, police registered an FIR against Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Gurjot Singh Kaler, ASI Rishi Rana, and three others on charges of criminal conspiracy and abetment to suicide.

The victim has been identified as 45-year-old Rajdeep Singh, a resident of Sector 80, Mohali. On Tuesday, he allegedly used his licensed revolver to shoot himself inside the HDFC Bank branch in Sector 68, leaving the community in shock.

Rajdeep’s father, Paramjeet Singh, lodged a complaint alleging that his son was forcibly taken to the bank to secure a loan for repaying money invested in his immigration business. He further claimed that AIG Kaler and others had been harassing his son, threatening to implicate him and the family in false cases if their money was not returned.

The family stated that Rajdeep had already repaid ₹1.60 crore to Kaler in February, while the officer had also invested ₹2.4 crore in the business of Rajdeep’s former associate, Sunil Aggarwal. Additionally, Rajdeep had invested over ₹2.46 crore in Aggarwal’s property business and vouched for ₹3.5 crore invested by another local resident. Other accused, including Rinku Krishna and Saina Arora, allegedly owed Rajdeep ₹40 lakh but refused to return the money, instead threatening him.

Police have now launched a detailed investigation into the case. The involvement of a senior police officer has sparked widespread discussions across Punjab, raising questions about corruption, pressure tactics, and accountability within the system.
