High Court to Hear FIR Case Against Bikram Majithia Today; Lookout Circular Already Issued
Chandigarh: The legal troubles of senior Akali leader and former Punjab minister Bikram Singh Majithia are set to be heard by the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday in connection with an FIR registered against him at Majitha Police Station in Amritsar district. The High Court had earlier issued notices to the Punjab Director General of Police (DGP), the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Amritsar Rural, and the Station House Officer (SHO) of Majitha Police Station while hearing a petition filed by the Shiromani Akali Dal challenging the case. As police failed to locate Majithia, authorities issued a Lookout Circular (LOC) late Monday evening to ensure that he does not leave the country. In a related development, the Punjab government also removed Amritsar Rural SSP Suhail Qasim Mir from his post on Monday evening.
Majithia has been accused of forcibly entering Majitha Police Station on Sunday and securing the release of an accused, Jobanjit Singh, from police custody. According to the FIR, he and his supporters allegedly interfered with police proceedings and attempted to snatch mobile phones from police personnel present at the station. Following the registration of the case, Punjab Police conducted raids at six locations linked to Majithia and his associates in Amritsar and Chandigarh on Monday as part of the ongoing investigation.
