A small bonhomie of 4 struggling economies during 2006-09, BRICs has grown into a 21 member Blockbuster encompassing 50% global population and 40% Global GDP, which nobody should dismiss as mere commercial or trading jamboree
The BRICS Summit 2026, that began today afternoon at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, presents a form
idable and cohesive Blockbuster comprisig of 21 Nations from Asia to West Asia, Africa and part of Europe endeavouring to safeguard the well-being of 50 percent of global humanity. The Group has 11 Core members (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Saudi Arabi, United Arab Emirates) and 10 more viz., Vietnam, Belarus, Bolivia, Kazakhistan, Cuba, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda who joined later as Partner countries. The future growth and livelihhod covering over 3.3 billion population and adding up a trade over $ 1.2 billion annually, is on the table for discussion and positive direction at the Summit.
The BRICS grouping, though covering about 49.5 percent of world population, it can be called second only to the United Nations, that has become almost redundant and toothless due to power games of P5 Veto Powers. BRICS members’ mutual cooperation has evolved beyond economic coordination, into a broad platform covering political-security, econom
ic-financial and socio-cultural engagement. The official BRICS framework groups aims at financial stability and ambience of friendly growth route compared to NATO (a military alliance targetted against USSR) , EU (a loose competing conglomerate), G-20 and G-7 (map credit-stock.adobe.com) ,
The 21 nation BRICS 2026, meeting today controls over 70% of crude oil and gas reserves with Iran, UAE, Saudi Arab, Russia and Nigeria; representing major energy sources and China-India being the big-2 consumers. Among those present in Delhi are also three Central Asian treasures of Rare Earths, the miinerals required for critical digital components, computers and automobile control systems.
The BRICS Summit 2026, is meeting at a very tense world order, full of conflicts, Energy crises, two big Wars: -the four and a half year old Russia-Ukraine war, America-Israel-Iran war in West Asia and Tariff cum Sanctions regime brought in by the Trump Administration. The BIG-3 of BRICS; Russia-India-China have a tremendous responsibility to steer the world out of muddy whirlpool. India’s Presidency has been succes
sful in bringing 13 Heads of States and 5 Dy. Heads apart from hundreds of global senior policy makers as delegates.
The Summit has also provided an opportunity to resolve the mutual Conflicts within: The neysayers of the world politics from the West have been prompt to highlight the mutual conflicts among neighbouring nations viz., China-India border disputes; Iran-UAE-Saudi Arabia conflicts (caused by US military bases present in the vregion and their use against Iran). There are several historic hostilities among the member states which are bound to be there; even these are among European nations, America-Canada and elsewhere. BRICS Summit 2026 has been used by the member states to narrow down the differences arising out of boundary or odd pilitical alliances or else.
Meeting between Iranian President M Pezeshkian and UAE Prez Mohamed Bin Zayed could herald a new era of 
mutual understanding and walking together to carve out a Peace Route thru’ West Asian gulfs.
Prime Minister Modi’s bilateral meeting with Chinese Prez Xi Zinping could de-escalate historical border skirmishes arising out of unmarked McMohan Line across Hindukush, Tibet and elsewhere.
PM Modi’s meetings with other dignitaries like Prez. Putin of Russia, Indonesian Prez, Malaysian Presdent, Iranin Prez, Egyptian Prez., Abu Dhabi Crown Prince, Ethiopian Prez., Vietnamese PM, Dy. Long Way to Go: Various members at the BRICS Summit 2026 have variety of expectations from the two-day bonhomie. Iran would like the Forum to help it assuage from US-Israel tyranny, Prez. Putin would expect unstinching support for its fight against NATO thru’ Ukraine, while China would like to use the Forum to decimate Dollar hegemony from the Global financial arena thru’ yet to be born BRICS Currency.
