Xi tells Kissinger that China-US relations are at a crossroads and stability is achievable

Kissinger is told by Xi, who is the leader of China, that despite the fact that China-US relations are at a turning point, stability is still conceivable. In large part because to the United States’ backing for the self-governing island democracy of Taiwan, which China claims as its own territory, this rush of diplomacy is intended to restart conversations that Beijing had previously interrupted.

BEIJING: Chinese leader Xi Jinping said on Thursday that the two nations’ relations are at a crossroads and that both must “make new decisions” that might lead to stable relations and “joint success and prosperity.”

For facilitating the warming of ties between Washington and Beijing’s Communist Party government during the Cold War in the early 1970s, the 100-year-old Kissinger is venerated in China.

Xi, the head of state, party general secretary, and leader of the greatest standing army in the world, met Kissinger in the relaxed atmosphere of Beijing’s park-like Diaoyutai State Guesthouse, along with Wang Yi, a top Chinese diplomat.

According to a statement provided by the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Xi stated that “China and the United States are once again at a crossroads of where to go and the two sides need to make new decisions.”

Looking to the future, China and the United States can flourish together, according to Xi.

Kissinger was the third senior Biden administration official to travel to China in recent weeks, following Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen. Kissinger’s journey coincided with one by John Kerry, Biden’s chief climate envoy. The flurry of diplomatic activity tries to resume talks that Beijing had halted, mostly over US backing for Taiwan, an island democracy that China claims as its own territory.

Wang referred to Kissinger’s role in establishing US-China relations when serving as national security adviser under the Nixon administration, saying he had performed a “irreplaceable role in enhancing mutual understanding between the two countries.”

According to Wang, “US policy towards China requires diplomatic wisdom like that of Kissinger and political courage like that of Nixon.” Under Nixon, Kissinger also held the position of secretary of state.

According to the ministry, the two parties also addressed artificial intelligence, other economic matters, and the conflict in Ukraine, in which China has generally supported with Moscow. According to Chinese authorities, the US is attempting to change, encircle, or restrict China amid disputes over trade, technology, Taiwan, and China’s human rights record. Wang informed Kissinger that it is “impossible” to do this.

Defence Minister Li Shangfu, who is prohibited from travelling to the US due to the arms deals he orchestrated with Russia, and Kissinger spoke on Tuesday.
