Minsk: Following last month’s brief insurrection, more Wagner mercenaries entered Belarus on Monday, a monitoring group reported.

Belaruski Hajun, a Belarusian activist group that monitors troops’ activities, reported that a convoy of roughly 20 vehicles flying Russian flags and Wagner insignia entered the country, going towards a field camp granted to the firm by Belarusian authorities.

The group stated it was the third Wagner convoy into the nation in a week.

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, who stopped Wagner head Yevgeny Prigozhin’s revolt last month, claimed the mercenaries’ battle experience could improve his force.

On Friday, Belarusian state TV showed Wagner instructors teaching Belarusian territory defence forces at a firing range in Asipovichy, where Wagner has a camp.

Last week, a Belarusian messaging app channel claimed that Prigozhin spent a night in the camp near Tsel, some 90 kilometres (55 miles) southeast of Minsk, and posted a tent photo of him.

In the insurrection that began on June 23 and lasted less than 24 hours, Prigozhin’s mercenaries surged through Rostov-on-Don and grabbed the military headquarters without firing a shot before driving to within 200 kilometres (125 miles) of Moscow. Prigozhin termed it a “march of justice” to overthrow Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu and General Staff Chief Gen. Valery Gerasimov, who insisted Wagner sign Defence Ministry contracts.

The mercenaries downed six military helicopters and a command post aircraft, killing 10 servicemen. After negotiating an amnesty and permission to relocate to Belarus, Prigozhin sent his forces return to their camps. The transaction and Prigozhin’s destiny are unclear.

Wagner forces were not counted by the Belarusian Defence Ministry. Lukashenko had indicated Prigozhin and Moscow would decide on a relocation to Belarus. Kremlin silence.

Putin said Wagner servicemen may take Defence Ministry contracts, move to Belarus, or retire. Putin stated last week that he offered Wagner officers the choice of staying together under their leader when he visited with them five days after the uprising.

Putin appeared to be trying to win back Wagner mercenaries, some of the most capable Russian forces in Ukraine, after their brief uprising last month threatened his 23-year rule.
