Ace Investigative Journalist RS Tagger Arrested by Punjab Police, Media Fraternity Plan Protests
Mohali: Senior journalist of Punjab, Rajinder Singh Tagger, editor of Punjab Dastavej, a popular channel highlighting lapses in Govt. departments, bureaucracy and adminstration, has been reportedly arrested by Punjab police on Friday. RS Tagger has been raising voice against harassment of innocent citizens by govt. departments and corruption rampant in the state administration, and police staff for long time. His reports are mostly supported by documental proofs and evidences against corruption and sufferings of common citizens due to procrastination of investigating agencies. It is understood, he was not given any chargesheet or opportunity to defend himself, legally nor summoned before arrest.
Media fraternity of Mohali, Chandigarh and entire Punjab state is up in arms, agitated at the unjust treatment to their colleague, who was raising public grieviences and hoping Punjab Govt. to addrress them. Mohali Press Club has decried the unjustified police action against Rajinder Singh Tigger. The Mohali Club President Sukhdev Singh Patwari, General Secretary Gurmeet Singh Shahi and Vice President Susheel Garcha met on Saturday and expressed anguish over the arrest. They plan to meet the state Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann soon and press for Taggar’s immidiate release unconditionally.
The Digital Media Association President DS Darshi, Chief Patron Baljit Balli, Chairman Satinder Bains, VP HS Bawa and other members demanded immidiate release of their senior colleague RS Tagger and called upon the Govt of Punjab to stop gagging the press. DMA apprehended the personal grudges against the senior media person, doing his duty by highlighting incompetancy of administration in solving public complaints and grievances.
The media corps of Mohali and Chandigarh plan to gherao the Mohali administration and police officials on Monday, if Tagger is not released.
