1962 – India and Pakistan begin negotiations over Kashmir.

1975 – Explosion at Chasnala. Colliery in Dhanbad collapses drowning 350.

1977 – The Congress party splits into two factions, one supporting and one opposing Indira Gandhi.

1979 – Soviet troops invade Afghanistan, President Hafizullah Amin overthrown.

1992 – The Central government decides to acquire the disputed area in Ayodhya.

2007 – Former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto is assassinated by a suicide bomber.

2013 – An error on the Delta Air Lines website allows thousands of customers to buy tickets for super-low fares, some 90% below regular ticket prices; Delta takes responsibility for the error, and will honour ticket purchases as well as frequent flier miles earned on the reduced-fare flights.
