Tirupati: Tirupati member of Parliament (MP) Dr. M Gurumoorthy said on Tuesday that the Railway Board has approved a Rs 299-crore proposal of South Central Railways (SCR) for major upgradation of Tirupati Railway Station.
In a statement, Gurumoorthy said the persistent demand for upgradation of the Tirupati railway station which facilitated lakhs of pilgrims coming for Srivari darshan had been ignored all along.
He said he had several times voiced the demand in Parliament for upgradation of Tirupati railway station with international standards and also represented to the union railway minister.
As a result, finally the railway board had directed the SCR to take up the upgradation on a war footing to facilitate the devotees coming from all over the country and also overseas .
He said as per the master action plan of SCR ,the up gradation included development of basement , ground plus three floor railways station on southern end and similar ground plus three floor development on northern side .
Connecting the south and north wings will be two massive air concourses of 35 meter wide providing lung space with benches ,drinking water fountains .
According to grand design each expansion area ( both south and north wings ) will have a basement parking departure and arrival concourses, ticket counters , waiting lounge on ground floor common waiting dormitory ,separate female waiting hall, food courts ,toilets, cloak rooms railway offices in first and second floors and rest rooms in third floor.
The entire complex will have 23 lifts, 20 escalators, information display system ,public address system, catching cameras, coach indicator boards and passenger amenities information lard .
Dr Gurumoorthy said with the upgradation of next generation infrastructure the Tirupati railway station will serve devotees with international standard facilities and enthuse the traveler’s for a visit to the pilgrim centre as a choicest Tourist destination.
