Why Did Chandigarh’s 24-Hour Water Issue Reach Parliament..
MP Manoj Tiwari Accuses Centre of Misleading on Water Supply….
Chandigarh : The issue of 24-hour water supply in Chandigarh has sparked a heated debate in Parliament, with BJP MP Manoj Tiwari alleging that the central government is misleading the public. The controversy erupted after Union Home Minister inaugurated the project, promising uninterrupted water supply to the residents of Chandigarh. However, opposition leaders claim that the promise remains unfulfilled, and the project has failed to deliver the expected results.
During a discussion in the Lok Sabha, Tiwari raised concerns over the effectiveness of the scheme, arguing that despite the grand inauguration, many areas in Chandigarh continue to face water shortages. He accused the government of making misleading claims and questioned the implementation of the project. The MP demanded clarity on the actual progress of the 24-hour water supply initiative and urged the Centre to take corrective measures.
On the other hand, the central government defended the project, stating that it is being implemented in phases and will take time to reach full capacity. Officials maintained that infrastructure development for continuous water supply is underway and that technical challenges are being addressed. They also assured that efforts are being made to ensure that every household in Chandigarh gets uninterrupted water as promised.
The debate over the water supply issue has become a political flashpoint, with opposition parties targeting the BJP-led government for what they call “false promises.” Local residents have also expressed mixed reactions, with some appreciating the initiative while others complain about inconsistencies in the supply. Many argue that while the project is ambitious, its execution has been slow, leaving citizens struggling with intermittent water shortages.
As the political battle over Chandigarh’s water supply intensifies, the focus remains on whether the Centre can fulfill its commitment. With elections approaching, the issue is likely to be a significant talking point in political campaigns. For now, residents of Chandigarh await concrete action to ensure that the promised 24-hour water supply becomes a reality rather than just a political statement.
