Western Disturbance Triggers Rainfall Across Haryana Districts..
Rain and hail hit 18 districts in Haryana, causing temperatures to drop by up to 11°C..
Hisar : A significant weather event swept through Haryana as a result of a strong western disturbance, bringing rainfall and hailstorms to several regions. According to the Meteorological Department, as many as 18 districts in the state experienced light to moderate rain over the past 24 hours, with some areas also witnessing hail showers. The impact of this weather system led to a sharp drop in daytime temperatures, with the mercury plummeting by up to 11 degrees Celsius in several regions.
The unexpected showers brought much-needed moisture to the region but also disrupted daily life, particularly in rural and agricultural zones. Farmers expressed mixed reactions to the weather, as some crops—especially mustard and wheat—may benefit from controlled rainfall, but hail can damage standing crops, particularly in the flowering and grain-filling stages. Reports from districts like Hisar, Rohtak, Bhiwani, and Jhajjar mentioned hail accumulation on roads and fields, creating white patches that looked almost wintry.
Weather experts state that such disturbances are not uncommon in North India during this time of year. However, the intensity and spread of the current system are notable. The western disturbance moved in from the Afghanistan-Pakistan region, carrying moisture-laden winds that triggered precipitation across northern India, including Haryana. Along with rain and hail, strong winds accompanied the showers in some districts, briefly affecting visibility and outdoor activities.
Residents reported a sudden chill in the air, which was reflected in the day’s maximum temperatures. In some places, day temperatures dipped from a normal 26–28°C to as low as 15–17°C, making it feel more like early winter than spring. The weather department has forecast that the system will weaken over the next 24 hours, though isolated rainfall may continue in some northern districts.
Authorities have urged farmers to monitor weather updates closely and take protective measures for their crops where possible. The state agricultural department is also assessing potential damage and may consider compensation if significant crop loss is reported.
