UAE’s Mars Mission reaches Red Planet’s orbit – Space Center
Moscow, Feb 10 (Sputnik) The UAE Emirates Mars Mission (EMM) made a significant breakthrough on Tuesday as the Hope Probe reached its orbit around the Red Planet, Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre said.
“Success! The Hope Probe reached the orbit of Mars, where it will provide the first holistic picture of the Martian atmosphere … With the Hope Probe reaching Mars, the UAE joins an elite list of global achievers in the field of space sciences,” the government space agency said on Twitter.
The Hope Probe reached the orbit at 15:42 GMT, completing its 7-month journey to Mars.
The EMM is the first interplanetary mission undertaken by an Arab nation and it made the United Ararb Emirates the fifth state globally to reach the Red Planet. Its main goal is to study the atmosphere and climate of Mars by collecting data for two years, with a possible extension of the mission until 2025.
