Strong Earthquake Shakes Pakistan, People Rush Out
4.6-magnitude quake strikes at shallow depth, no casualties reported……
Islamabad : A strong earthquake struck Pakistan late Thursday night, sending shockwaves across several regions and prompting residents to rush out of their homes in fear. According to a statement released by the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the magnitude of the earthquake was recorded at 4.6 on the Richter scale. The tremors were felt at around 10 kilometers below the surface, which is considered a shallow depth and can be more dangerous due to its proximity to the Earth’s crust.
Residents in affected areas reported sudden, intense shaking that lasted for a few seconds but was powerful enough to trigger panic. People left their homes and gathered in open spaces as a precautionary measure. Despite the fear, there have been no immediate reports of damage to infrastructure or casualties.
The seismic activity was centered in a known tectonically active zone, and officials are closely monitoring the situation for any potential aftershocks. Emergency services have been placed on alert, although early assessments suggest that the region may have escaped major harm this time.
Earthquakes are not uncommon in Pakistan, which lies near the collision zone of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates. Over the years, the country has witnessed several deadly quakes, the most devastating being the 2005 Kashmir earthquake that claimed more than 80,000 lives. Thursday night’s tremor, while significantly less severe, served as a reminder of the country’s vulnerability to natural disasters.
Geologists and disaster management authorities have urged citizens to remain cautious and informed. They have also recommended that residents in earthquake-prone regions keep emergency kits and evacuation plans ready at all times.
No tsunami warning has been issued as the earthquake occurred inland and not near any coastal area. However, authorities emphasized the need to strengthen building codes and enforce structural safety norms, especially in urban and densely populated areas.
Local news channels showed visuals of people gathered on the streets, reciting prayers and trying to reach their families through mobile phones. The authorities have advised the public not to panic and to rely only on verified sources for updates.
