Special Lok Adalat in Chandigarh from July 1

To run for 11 days; will resolve traffic challans and petty cases, saving time and money…..

Chandigarh: A special Lok Adalat will be organized in Chandigarh from July 1, aiming to resolve thousands of pending traffic challans and minor disputes efficiently. The drive will continue for 11 days, giving citizens an opportunity to settle their cases quickly, without lengthy court procedures or heavy expenses.

According to officials, the initiative is being undertaken under the guidance of the State Legal Services Authority. The objective is to promote speedy justice and reduce the burden on regular courts. These special benches will handle cases like traffic violations, petty criminal offenses, minor civil disputes, and compoundable cases that are eligible for mutual settlement.

A senior legal officer said, “People often hesitate to approach courts for small issues due to time, cost, and legal formalities. Lok Adalat provides a simple, fast, and friendly mechanism to resolve such cases amicably.”

The special Lok Adalat will be held at the District Courts Complex, where multiple benches will operate daily from 10 AM to 5 PM. Traffic challans, in particular, are expected to be resolved in large numbers, especially with the increasing number of pending e-challans issued by the traffic police.

Those wishing to settle their cases can either visit the court with their documents or pre-register through the official Chandigarh District Court website. Once the case is listed, parties can present their matter, and upon mutual consent, a decision will be passed which will be legally binding and final.

Legal experts say this is a golden opportunity for people to clear their dues, avoid arrest warrants, and prevent future complications in minor legal matters. Additionally, court fees are either waived or significantly reduced in Lok Adalat proceedings.

The Legal Services Authority has also urged government departments, banks, and insurance companies to participate actively in the Lok Adalat for settling recoveries, claims, and disputes.

This special Lok Adalat is part of a broader push across India to resolve cases through alternative dispute resolution mechanisms and reduce the load on overburdened courts.
