Sikkim State Day Celebrated: low key tributes to Kazi L Dorjee

Gangtok, May 16 ( UNI ) Merger of Sikkim with Indian Union in 1975 ,16th May and becoming the 22nd State was commemorated here on Sunday. The Father of Democracy in Sikkim, Padma Vibhushan, Kazi Lhendup Dorjee was paid floral tributes, at his life size statue. Kazi was the first CM of Sikkim. . The Chief Minister PS Tamang and Deputy Speaker Sangay Lepcha offered garlands at the Statue. A few others were also present, in the briefest possible program attended by VIPs, concerned officers due to COVID19 Lockdown and ban on gatherings. Earlier Vice President of India, M Venkaiah Naidu tweeted Greetings on the State Day. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, also tweeted ‘Statehood Day greetings to the people of Sikkim.-Praying for the State’s continuous growth and for good health of it’s citizens’.
CM has appealed to the public to rededicate themselves to the task of better Sikkim and contribute each one’s share towards the process of overall development. He congratulated and greeted people on the State Day for achieving a lot during past years, referred to achievements of his Govt and previous ones. ‘Today Sikkim stands tall among the States and is working in synergy with the Central Govt to chart its journey to greater heights of progress and prosperity. Much needs to be done for achieving these goals,’ conveyed CM, in his message on the occasion.
