SC halts Gyanvapi survey until Wednesday 5 PM

The SC has ordered that the survey at Gyanvapi be halted until Wednesday at 5 PM. The Supreme Court issued the ruling after senior counsel Huzefa Ahmadi, who was representing the mosque committee, told the bench that his client was not allowed any breathing time to file an appeal. The court then went ahead and issued the judgement.

NEW DELHI: The Varanasi district court’s judgement mandating the Archaeological examination of India to conduct a scientific examination of the Gyanvapi mosque was stayed by the Supreme Court on Monday in NEW DELHI. The reservation is good until July 26, 5 p.m.

A bench of Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Mishra stated that the Muslim side should be given some breathing room to appeal after noting that the district court’s decision was issued at 4.30 pm on Friday and the ASI started its survey on Monday. In addition, the court ordered the HC to consider the appeal before the stay expired.

The Supreme Court issued the directive after senior attorney Huzefa Ahmadi, who was representing the mosque committee, informed the bench that his client had not been given any breathing room to file an appeal.
