Rain cools Delhiites, brings water-logging as Cashback

New Delhi: Light to moderate rainfall in various parts of Delhi on Saturday brought relief for Delhiites from the sultry weather, and the maximum temperature settled at 36.5 degrees Celsius.
The downpour led to waterlogging in several areas of the national capital, besides causing traffic jams. Tree felling was also reported.
“Several areas of the national capital received light to moderate rainfall. From 0830 hrs till 1730 hours today, 19.6 mm rainfall was recorded,” an India Meteorological Department official said.
He further said, ‘In the said period, Safdarjung observatory recorded 19.6 mm rainfall, Palam 8.7, Lodhi Road 18.4 mm and Ridge 25.3 mm.”
The minimum temperature on Saturday was recorded at 28.3 degrees Celsius, a notch above normal.
Delhi Traffic Police in a tweet wrote, “Traffic is affected on New Rohtak road in the carriageway from Anand Parbat towards Zakhira due to waterlogging at opposite Gali No.10 Anand Parbat. Kindly avoid stretching.”
Earlier, the Traffic Police citing the IMD report that “thunderstorm with moderate to heavy intensity rain would occur over the entire Delhi and adjoining areas”, advised commuters to plan their journey accordingly.
Meanwhile, the MCD in a report said that it received two complaints of waterlogging from Uttam Nagar and Malviya Nagar, while eight of tree felling from various areas, including Jangpura, Saket and Paharganj.
The IMD has forecast a generally cloudy sky with light rain or drizzle for Sunday. (UNI)
