Punjab Police Conduct Raids at 324 Sites, 68 Drug Smugglers Held
Heroin, opium recovered; de-addiction drive also underway.....
Chandigarh: Continuing the fight against drugs under the initiative “Yudh Nashian Virudh”, launched by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Punjab Police conducted raids at 324 locations on Sunday, resulting in the arrest of 68 drug smugglers. During the operation, 46 FIRs were registered across the state. This brings the total number of drug smugglers arrested to 27,787 over the past 183 days.
The raids led to the recovery of 3.9 kg heroin, 2.5 kg opium, 962 intoxicant tablets/capsules, and Rs 2 lakh in drug money. The operation was carried out under the directions of DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav across all 28 police districts.
Special DGP Law and Order Arpit Shukla stated that over 100 police teams, comprising more than 900 personnel and supervised by 70 gazetted officers, conducted the raids. A total of 356 suspicious persons were checked during the day-long operation.
Under the state government’s three-pronged strategy—Enforcement, De-addiction, and Prevention (EDP), Punjab Police also convinced 28 individuals to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment as part of the ongoing efforts to curb drug abuse.
