Punjab Floods: CM Bhagwant Mann Turns Emotional After Hearing Victim’s Pain
CM visits Ferozepur flood-hit families....
Ferozepur — Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann broke down on Tuesday after listening to the heart-wrenching ordeal of an elderly woman during his visit to a flood-affected locality in Ferozepur. The victim, Manjit Kaur of Basti Ram Lal, narrated her suffering due to the devastating floods, leaving the CM visibly emotional.
Mann comforted the woman, assuring her that the government was committed to standing by every affected family. He urged residents to keep faith in his leadership, promising that “all possible help will be extended.”
During his visit, the Chief Minister also participated in langar with locals and toured flood-hit areas in an Army rescue boat. He expressed serious concern over the “meagre” compensation provided under the current disaster relief norms by the Centre.
Mann highlighted that although Punjab had substantial funds in the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF), the existing guidelines prescribed by the Ministry of Home Affairs were “totally unrealistic” and grossly inadequate to cover the huge losses suffered by farmers, livestock owners, and vulnerable communities. He demanded an urgent revision of relief norms to ensure justice for flood-hit families.
This emotional interaction in Ferozepur has sparked fresh debate about the Centre’s role and the urgent need for better disaster management policies in Punjab.
