PUCSC Election: ABVP and SOPU Announce Presidential Candidates for September 3 Poll
Gauravveer Sohal and Ardas Kaur to contest PU student council president post.....
Chandigarh — With the Panjab University Campus Students’ Council (PUCSC) election scheduled for September 3, two major student groups have announced their presidential nominees.
The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), on Wednesday named Gauravveer Sohal, a scholar from the University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS), as its candidate for the president’s post. Although ABVP has never won the presidency at PUCSC, the party aims to make a strong impact this year.
ABVP has pledged several initiatives including installing rooftop solar panels on all academic and administrative buildings across both campuses to reduce the carbon footprint, establishing a modern synthetic athletics track, providing 24/7 tuck shops and canteen facilities, organising university-level placement festivals, and installing SOS panic buttons every 100 meters for enhanced campus safety.
Meanwhile, the Students Organisation of Panjab University (SOPU) announced Ardas Kaur, a student from the University Institute of Fashion Technology, as its presidential candidate. This marks SOPU’s first time contesting the president’s post in nearly a decade and possibly the first female face for the position.
“I will work for the welfare of students and raise their voices. Our focus is to promote unity and be the true voice of the students,” Ardas said.
The PUCSC elections will be held on September 3, with students casting their votes to decide the campus leadership.
