Nitish demands special focus on prepaid metre, solar energy
Patna: Reiterating his demand for a One Nation One Tariff policy, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday stressed the need for shifting to solar energy and announced that smart prepaid electricity metres would be installed in every household in remote areas.
While inaugurating various projects of the electricity department Kumar said here that a One Nation One Tariff policy would check discrimination in the rate of electricity supply whereas by adopting solar power the conventional form of energy would be conserved.
The CM said his government was committed to installing smart prepaid metres in every household and directed the authorities to complete the mission by 2025. He said the prepaid metres have been installed in the urban areas and now it would be done in the rural parts.
Referring to the prepaid metre scheme, the chief minister said in view of various complaints regarding electricity bills a decision to install smart prepaid metre was taken.
He said because of complete transparency in the electricity bills, the smart prepaid metre was in the interest of consumers who would use electricity judiciously without wasting it.
He said smart prepaid electricity metres would be installed in every household by 2025 and kicked off a 36 lakh smart pre-paid meter installation scheme at a cost of Rs 3667 crores during the day. (UNI)
