Nepal records highest daily deaths from COVID

Kathmandu, Apr 30 (UNI) Nepal reported the record highest deaths in a single day from COVID-19 pandemic as the COVID crisis deepens in the Himalayan country.
A total of 35 people died of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, according to the data released by Nepal’s Ministry of Health and Population. This is the highest number of deaths from the pandemic in a single day since the pandemic hit Nepal early last year.
Last record of highest deaths in a single day was on Nov 4 last year when a total of 30 deaths were reported. Total deaths from the pandemic in Nepal as of Thursday reached 3,246.
The ministry said an increasing death rate was the result of growing coronavirus cases in the recent days.
“The new wave has also proved to be more infectious and dangerous and many people need to be hospitalized compared to the first wave,” Sher Bahadur Pun, chief of the Clinical Research Unit at Kathmandu-based Sukraraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital, told Xinhua on Thursday.
Nepal also reported 4,928 new cases of COVID-19 Thursday, which is the third highest cases ever reported in a single day, according to Nepal’s health ministry.
Nepal has been seeing rapid rise in COVID-19 cases in recent days.
