Municipal Elections in the state of Hesse (Germany) warm up to long pending Solutions

Hesse (Frankfurt): Citizens across the German state of Hesse vote for local Municipal Elections (Kommunalwahlen) next Sunday (March 15). These ele
ctions will determine the Path of Revival for Local Residents in the coming 5 Years, depending upon the composition of district Councils (Kreistag) and municipal Councils, which decide key local issues such as schools, transport, housing, and social services. The last elections were held in March 2021. 21 District Councils and 421 Municipalities across Hesse saw 24 parties and 555 voter groups vie for for the coveted seats.
One of the economically strongest districts in Germany, faces a political precarious situation and plenty of challenges, in Main-Taunus-Kreis like Housing affordability in the Frankfurt metropolitan, Traffic and commuter mobility between towns and Frankfurt city, Childcare and schools intake, Digital administration and public services apart from Climate transition and sustainable infrastructure.
In recent public opinion and trends in the region, the CDU has been strong, followed by the G
reens and the SPD, with smaller parties like FDP, AfD, and others competing for influence. Traditional parties in MTK elections include:
• CDU – traditionally strongest in the district; focus on economic stability and conservative governance.
• SPD – social policies, workers’ rights, public services.
• Greens – climate policy, sustainable mobility, environmental protection.
• FDP – pro-business,
digitalization, economic freedom.
• AfD – right-wing populist platform.
• Freie Wähler / local lists – regional and community-focused politics.
Unlike traditional parties, VOLT a younger party (estd. 2017), with fresh blood and vigour positions itself as a European reform movement focusing on innovation, transparency, and data-driven policymaking. Founded by Damian Boeselager, Andrea Venzon, and Colombe Cahen-Salvador as Volt Europa. Volt is a pan-European political movement that aims to bring pragmatic, cross-border solutions and modern governance to local politics. Led by has 5 representatives in the European Parliament and has over 100 representatives across Europe. Eileen O‘Sullivan, Anup Mundethu and Kamal Vatsain are members of the present VOLT team.
