Gurmeet Shahi regains President’s post, Sukhdev Patwari gets General Secretary’s while outgoing Sr. VP Sushil Garcha drops out with a whimper

Mohali (Punjab):   Annual elections to the Governing Body of  prominent media association Mohali Press Club  turned out a  no-contest  execise last week. All the candidates of  Gurmeet Singh Shahi-Sukhdev Singh  Patwari  team won the election for the  Year 2026-27  without any contest. 

There was a reshuffle in top 2 posts of President-Gen. Secretary, with mutual understanding  while  Vice President Manjit Singh Chana was elevated to Sr. VP post. Others elected  un-upposed were  Vice President Vijay Pal and Ms Neelam Thakur, Organizing Secretary Vijay Kumar, Joint Secretary Dr. Ravinder Kaur,  Sandeep Bindra and Treasurer Rajiv Taneja was declared the winner of the new body.

Veteran  Chief Election Commissioner  (CEC) Harinder Pal Singh Harry alongwith Election Commissioners Kulwinder Singh Bawa and Gurmeet Singh Randhawa,   announced  the election results  on Satuday evening,        April 04, at  4.30 pm, (the  closing time for  withdrawals)  as there was only one panel and  no  formal election was required on scheduled date (April 05).   The CEC declared Gurmeet  Shahi as  President-elect and  Sukhdev Patwari as Secretary-elect, alongwith  their panel.  as  the winners.

The outgoing President Patwari thanked the Election Commission for conducting the election to the new Governing Body for Yr. 2026-27  peacefully, requiring  no hassle of going through any formal polling process.  He also  promised  to  get  the Club its own premises on priority,  in the ensuing year, using all  resources including  state  govt. support.

Though the election process  has  appeared a smooth and peaceful exercize,  there has been ‘some initial  mix-up’  in  the nomination  according to some reliable sources. The outgoing  Sr. VP  would  have liked to contest for one of the top two  posts, which was denied to him, resultng in  his withdrawal from the contest altogether.
