DUBAI: On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made history by suggesting that India would host the COP33. In 2028, the world climate summit rotates through Asia, and he made the opening presentation.

Modi made an impression at the COP28 by becoming the sole head of state to participate in the World Climate Action Summit’s high-level panel. “India is dedicated to advancing the UN Framework for Climate Change initiative. For this reason, I suggest using this platform to hold the COP33 conference in India in 2028,” he stated.

Despite housing 17% of the world’s population, “we contribute less than 4% of global carbon emissions.” One of the few economies on pace to meet its NDC (Nationally Determined Contributions) obligations is India’s. Eleven years ago, we met our emission intensity targets. The non-fossil fuel targets have been met nine years ahead of schedule. By 2030, we want to cut emissions intensity by 45% and raise the use of non-fossil fuels to 50%. We’ll keep moving forward to reach net zero by 2070,” he declared.
