Nagpur, April 16: State Industries Minister Subhash Desai on Saturday said that a central committee will soon be sent to Maharashtra to decide on the site for setting up the Refinery and Petro Chemical Complex (RPC) in the state. Speaking to reporters here, Desai said that the Central government will decide on the location for setting up the Refinery and Petro Chemical Complex in Maharashtra and added that a committee will soon visit the state to select the site. Desai, however, said that it was up to the state government to provide the land required and basic necessities for the project. He further said that Central government is the promoter and Aramco is the investor in this project. Hence the final decision will be taken by both the Centre government and Aramco, Desai said. The refinery project, which was supposed to be implemented in the Ratnagiri district, has been halted due to local opposition and other factors. Subsequently, in a letter dated March 12 to CM Uddhav Thackeray and State industries minister Subhash Desai, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari emphasized how the project’s relocation to Vidarbha (eastern Maharashtra) will benefit the state.
