Mahant Ravindra Puri elected new president of Akhara Parishad
Prayagraj, Oct 25 (UNI) Mahant Ravindra Puri Maharaj was elected as the new president of Akhara Parishad here on Monday, which fell vacant after death of Mahant Narendra Giri.
According to the rules, the member of the Akhara from which the post is vacant is appointed.
This decision was taken in the meeting held in the Daraganj Niranjani Akhara regarding the post of the President.
Mahant Ravindra Puri is the secretary of Shri Panchayati Niranjani Akhara, who was now appointed the president of the Akhara Parishad.
Seven Akharas together took this decision. Juna, Niranjani, Agni Anand, Nata Udaseen Akhara and Ahwahan Akhara supported, rebel factions of Nirmal Akhara and secretary of Nirmohi Ani Akhara, Madan Mohan Das supported the decision by sending a letter.
There was a lot of dispute in the meeting. Seven of the thirteen Akharas agreed on the name of Ravindra Puri.
Many Akharas, including Juna, had claimed the post, but Mahant Ravindra Puri, secretary of Niranjani Akhara, was considered for the post of president.
Rajendra Das of Nirmohi Akhara has been elected as General Secretary.
