New Delhi, April 29: Delhi Lawyers under the banner of ‘Lawyer’s for Justice’ on Friday held a candlelight march expressing their solidarity with families of the victims of ‘political violence’ in West Bengal under the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress government, and demanded President’s Rule in the state. Lawyers from Supreme Court, Delhi High Court and all District Courts, came out and marched from Patiala House Court, Gate no. 6 to India Gate. Holding placards, they shouted slogans against the TMC government. One of the placards read, “stop violence’. “There is no rule of law in West Bengal. After the Assembly elections, violence was reported, people’s houses were set on fire, and women were allegedly raped,” JP Sharma, former chairman of Saket Bar Association, who participated in the candlelight march, said. In such a situation, Delhi lawyers stand with the victims of West Bengal to protect their interest, he added. Family members of the victims of ‘political violence’ were also present. One of the victim’s family members narrated how his brother was allegedly brutally attacked by the TMC workers following which he succumbed to the injuries. “We are waiting for justice. The culprits must be punished,” he said. (UNI)
