Kisan Andolan: MP Urges Centre to Talk to Farmers

Chandigarh: On Monday, Punjab AAP MP Malvinder Singh Kang visited the Khaunori Border to meet farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who has been on a hunger strike for 21 days demanding a legal guarantee for MSP on crops and other farmer-related issues. Kang expressed his concerns over the lack of response from the central government and accused them of ignoring the farmers’ demands.

Kang highlighted the stark contrast between the government’s actions, as they celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Constitution in Parliament while farmer leaders like Dallewal are forced to fast for their rights. He emphasized the tragic irony that peaceful protests are being met with roadblocks and restrictions on farmers’ movement towards the national capital.

He further stated that if the central government engages in talks with the farmers before December 18, the planned “Rail Roko” movement could be avoided. Kang expressed frustration over the government’s reluctance to address farmers’ concerns and stated that despite the ongoing protest, no official dialogue or actions have been taken by the Centre to resolve the issue. The Punjab government, through AAP, is pushing for dialogue and urging the Centre to open channels of communication with the farmers.
