Haryana : A crucial meeting of the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC) is being held today in Panchkula, drawing the attention of the Sikh community across the state. The session will witness the participation of all 40 newly elected members of the committee, who were chosen during the recent HSGMC elections. The gathering is significant, not just because of the new composition of the body, but also due to the fresh rules that have come into effect regarding nominations.

As per the amended norms governing the HSGMC, the nomination of 9 additional members to the committee is now required. Out of these, it is mandatory to include 9 women members, with at least 3 representatives from the Scheduled Castes (SC) and Backward Classes (BC) categories. This move is seen as a step toward ensuring inclusivity and fair representation in the governance of Sikh religious institutions in the state.

Sources close to the committee suggest that today’s meeting will not only focus on formal introductions and setting the tone for future governance but will also likely finalize discussions on the selection process for the nominated members. The emphasis on women’s representation has been welcomed by many in the community, as it marks a progressive shift in the traditional composition of the HSGMC.

The meeting is being held amid heightened interest from religious and political observers, as the functioning of the HSGMC has often been linked with broader political dynamics in Haryana and neighboring Punjab. Ensuring that diverse voices are included in the committee is seen as a way to maintain harmony and accountability in the management of gurdwaras and related religious affairs.

Officials present at the meeting stated that transparency and efficiency in committee operations will be a priority going forward. They also noted that guidelines would be set in place to streamline future nominations and ensure that community service remains at the core of the committee’s agenda.

This Panchkula meeting is expected to pave the way for stronger representation and democratic participation in Sikh religious administration across Haryana.
