Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 18 (UNI) The Budget Session of Kerala Legislative Assembly beginning with Governor’s customary policy address on Friday is set to be a stormy affair with Opposition Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) keeping a slew of allegations against the Left Government ready in its arsenal. Opposition leader VD Satheesan, alleging political nexus between Governor Arif Mohammed Khan and the Pinarayi Vijayan Government has condemned the Governor for clearing the controversial ‘Lok Ayukta (Amendment) Ordinance-2021.’ He accused the Governor and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan of insulting the Legislative Assembly by clearing the ordinance days ahead of the Assembly session, dismantling Kerala’s anti-corruption mechanism. The fourth session of 15th Kerala Legislative Assembly will begin with the Governor’s customary policy address at 0900 hrs. today. The recent appointment of a BJP State Committee member in the Governor’s staff, former principal secretary to the chief minister M Sivasankaran’s controversial book on diplomatic baggage gold smuggling case, fresh revelations by Swpna Suresh, a key accused in gold smuggling, corruption in the purchase of medical equipment during COVID pandemic, the Government’s failure in controlling COVID, violation of COVID protocol by the CPI(M) are likely to be raked up by the Opposition. Unlike the previous sessions, the Opposition has enough issues in their kitty this time to grill the ruling CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF). Finance Minister KN Balagopal will present the State Budget for the year 2022-23 on March 11. The discussions on the ‘Motion of Thanks to the Governor’ for the policy address will be held on February 22, 23 and 24. The House will pay tributes to late Thrikkakkara MLA PT Thomas on February 21 and there will be no other business on that day. There will be no session between February 25 to March 10. An international book festival will be organized in connection with the centenary celebration of the State Assembly during this session.
